Most homeowners seldom, if ever, get on the roof of their home. Consequently, problems that may be developing with the roof or the roofing system can go undetected for weeks or months before an unsuspecting homeowner would ever know it.

Often the first indication of a problem with a roof will typically appear as one of the following conditions:

  • Dark water stains on a wall or ceiling.
  • Discoloration of paint on a wall or ceiling.
  • Change in the texture of a wall or ceiling.
  • Paint that has peeled or flakes.
  • Appearance of mold.

Unfortunately, most people do not normally pay close attention to the ceilings or upper wall areas inside the home, where these initial symptoms are most likely to begin to appear. Additionally, the problems might be hidden or obscured. These factors can be especially troubling, because when these sorts of warning signs finally surface, the underlying problem has likely already been developing for an extended period of time.

In other words, by the time a person can visually observe one of these conditions, it could very well mean that the damage has been occurring for a very long time prior to that.

So, it is essential to be vigilant, observant and to take notice of these sorts of concerns in your home on a regular basis, but more importantly, homeowners should act quickly after identifying any of the issues mentioned above by having a qualified individual inspect your home to determine the source of the problem.

It is vital that homeowners address these problems quickly, because ignoring the problems will not make them go away. It will usually only make things worse. Keep in mind that the actual issue could be something minor which can be easily and inexpensively corrected. At the same time, a relatively minor problem, if left unattended, can become worse and snowball into a costly catastrophic situation.

You should also know that conditions like those discussed here could potentially be covered under your homeowners insurance policy.

So again, for all of these reasons it is important to have a qualified individual inspect your home at the first sign of a problem like the ones mentioned here.

If you believe that any of the conditions we have discussed here may be present in your home, or if you would simply like some peace of mind, we invite you to contact our office to arrange for completely free consultation and perhaps an inspection of your home.
